The Setting
A Rarity Among Private Properties
The K Bar L is rare among private properties (and guest ranches) in that it sits at the very edge of a vast wilderness, the second largest designated wilderness area in the lower 48 states.
Known as the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex, these wild lands include the Scapegoat, Great Bear, and Bob Marshall Wilderness whose combined area totals 1,535,352 acres.
Lying adjacent to the eastern edge of the Bob Marshall, the ranch sits at 5,000 feet in elevation. The K Bar L is the only private property within the Sun River Game Preserve, designated in 1913 as a special wildlife management area and now lying within the later-created Bob Marshall and Scapegoat Wilderness Areas.
The K Bar L is at the upper end of Gibson Reservoir, a 1,300 acre water body created by a concrete dam impoundment downstream on the Sun River.
