The Setting
Blue Ribbon Fishing
Fishing is one of the compelling recreational ‘magnets’ of the K Bar L.
Anglers enjoy a paradise of piscatorial delights at their doorstep, given that the north and south forks of the Sun River converge at the Ranch.
Both forks of the Sun River flow out of the Bob Marshall and Scapegoat Wilderness areas up slope from the Ranch, and the fishing is excellent in both rivers once the turbidity from the snow-melt driven spring run-off subsides.
The consistently fine fishing is in no small part due to the fact that the waters on and in close proximity are seldom fished by others. With stream access a matter of hiking or coming by horseback into the area, few anglers are willing to wear out the shoe leather necessary to get up and into these waters.
Although brown trout are not among the species present that delight anglers, rainbow are abundant. In Gibson Reservoir and the tributaries that feed it there are also cutthroat, westslope cutthroat, westslope X rainbow crosses, white sucker and arctic grayling.
